SUMMARY

The Alberta Express Entry Stream allows Alberta to nominate a limited number of qualified candidates from Federal Express Entry System (➨page).

Applicants can only apply to the Alberta Express Entry stream after receiving a Notification of Interest (NOI) letter from the province. Eligible candidates will be contacted directly by the AAIP through their Express Entry profile.

The AAIP will select candidates from the pool of candidates in Express Entry system based on the self-declared information in their Express Entry profile.  So in order to apply under this program, you should have created and accepted to the pool of Express Entry.

Priority may be given to those with a valid job offer. In-laws are not considered, and family connections must be verifiable with supporting documents.
  • Dedicated Healthcare Pathway: As of October 2023, about 2% of AAIP’s Express Entry spots is allocated to candidates in eligible NOC codes with valid job offers in Alberta's health sector. WHAT STEPS SHOULD YOU TAKE?

Step 1: Create Express Entry Profile

For a chance to be invited to apply under AAIP Express Entry Stream, you must create an Express Entry Profile (➨page) for yourself.  Within your Express Entry profile make sure you have stated an interest in immigrating permanently to Alberta.

Candidates must receive by email a Notification of Interest letter (request to submit an application to apply to the program). If the AAIP does not ask you to submit an application, you are not eligible for consideration under this stream.

Check your CRS score (➨page) and then compare with previous rounds of AAIP invitations listed in the table on the right to see how likely you are to get an invitation in the next round. You may calculate your score using the online CRS tool at (➨ immilib.com/CRS-Tool).

Step 2: Submit Application to AAIP

If you receive a Notification of Interest letter from Alberta, you must email a copy of the letter to the AAIP at [email protected] within two (2) weeks of receiving it in your federal Express Entry profile. You must also provide your Express Entry profile number and status information about current and past AAIP applications/nominations (if applicable).

If you are selected to apply, the AAIP will send you an email with a link to the AAIP online portal.

Your application will only be considered for assessment while your federal Express Entry profile is active. Once your Express Entry profile is no longer available for nomination, you will no longer be eligible under this stream with your current application.

An AAIP officer will contact you by email or phone if additional information is needed to assess your application and will tell you how to send the information.
If your application is approved, you will receive a nomination certificate through the Express Entry portal. The AAIP will also email you a nomination certificate that you should retain for your records.

You must accept the nomination within thirty (30) days after it is issued through the Express Entry portal in order to receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence.

When you accept a nomination, you are awarded 600 additional points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) (➨page). This will help you quickly get invited to apply for permanent residence through your Express Entry profile.

Step 3: Apply for Permanent Residence

You can only apply for permanent residence (➨page) through Express Entry if you’ve received an invitation to apply your online Express Entry profile.

Your Express Entry invitation to apply is valid for sixty (60) days only.

Apply for a Temporary Work Permit

If you have an employer in Canada and your current work permit will expire within 180 days (approximately six months), at the time of nomination, AAIP may include a work permit support letter in your nomination package. This letter permits you to apply for a work permit from the federal government without the need for an LMIA (➨immilib.com/LMIA).

Step 4: Landing in Canada

If your application is approved, you will be asked to pay your right of permanent residence fee if you haven’t already done so. You will receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR) and if you are from a country that requires a visa you will also be issued a permanent resident visa.

You will only become a Permanent Resident of Canada when you cross a Canadian port of entry. This is referred to as ‘landing in Canada’ (➨page).

You must land in Canada before the expiry date, which appears on your Canada Immigration Visa. Usually, the expiry date is one (1) year from the time medical examinations were completed. As this is not always the case, be sure to verify the expiry date as soon as the Canada Immigration Visa is received.
