APPENDIX 1: National Occupational Classification (2021)
GSB
SUMMARY
The National Occupational Classification (NOC) system is Canada's national system of organizing and describing occupations.
NOC 2021 includes structural changes from NOC 2016 (➨Page) such as the reorganization of certain groups across broad occupational categories. The new NOC 2021 also:
- Replaces the current four-category NOC “Skill level” structure with a new six-category system that represents the level of Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities (TEER) required for profession admission.
- Utilizes a five-tiered (digits) hierarchical arrangement of occupational groups with increasing levels of break down that includes broad occupational categories, major groups, sub-major groups, minor groups, and unit groups.
- Replaces the current four-digit coding system with a new five-digit system.
