Guide 3: Express Entry System

SUMMARY
Express Entry is an online system that is used to manage applications for Canada permanent residence from skilled workers.
If you meet the requirements of one of the following programs, you can create an Express Entry Profile for yourself.
Your Express Entry profile is where you submit information about yourself to the Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada. To complete your profile, you’ll need:
- information from some documents including passports, language test results, etc. But you don’t need to upload any documents.
- your National Occupational Classification (NOC) job title and code (➨appendix 1)
- your Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) (➨appendix 3)

Before creating a profile you may simply answer some questions to make sure you are eligible to apply by going to (➨immilib.com/EE-Signup1).
If you’re eligible, you will receive instructions on how to create your profile. The tool will send you to your online account to fill out an Express Entry profile.
Your account lets you start an application including an express entry profile. To create online profile you can sign up at (➨immilib.com/EE-Signup2).
You will have sixty (60) days from the date you first started your profile to complete and submit it. Your profile will stay in the system for one (1) year from the date you submit.
Once accepted into the pool of candidates, you’ll be ranked in the Express Entry pool using a points-based system called Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) (➨Page). Your score is based on the information in your profile. The highest-ranking candidates from the pool will be invited to apply for permanent residence. However there are occasional program-specific draws with a lower score. There have been 2 rounds of invitation per month in average.
JOB BANK REGISTRATION
When you successfully create you profile you will receive an Express Entry Profile Number as well as a Job Seeker Validation Code. Job seeker validation codes are numbers that identify your Express Entry profile in Canada’s Job Bank (➨immilib.com/JobBank).
Registering at Job Bank is voluntary. You can still create a Job Match account to help you look for work.
To start your job search, you can create a Job Match account with Canada’s Job Bank to promote yourself to employers in Canada using private sector job boards.
A Job Match account with Job Bank is an easy, online tool to help match you with employers looking for workers with your skills. To do so go to the Job Match sign-in page on the top right of the page and follow the instruction.
You will need your Express Entry profile number and job seeker validation code to create a Job Match account.
INVITATION TO APPLY
If you are invited you will be given sixty (60) days to accept the invitation. If you decline the invitation, your profile will be placed back into the pool for the time left in the original one year since completing your profile. If you’re not invited to apply within twelve (12) months of submitting your Express Entry profile, it will automatically expire and removed from the system.
You can still create a new profile. If your profile is about to expire, you can print out screen shots of your profile to make it easier to re-enter your data.
Some invitation rounds may only invite candidates for one (1) program, for example only from Federal Skilled Trades. Program-specific draws are designed to give candidates with specific skill sets, who would not normally qualify through general draws, the opportunity to receive an invitation. The program-specific draws take place less frequently.

Check your CRS score (➨Page) and then compare with previous rounds of invitations to see how likely you are to get an invitation in the next round. You may calculate your score using the online CRS tool at (➨immilib.com/CRS-Tool).
PROVINCIAL PROGRAMS UNDER EXPRESS ENTRY
There are two ways to apply to one of Provincial Nominee Programs under Express Entry:
- By contacting the province or territory directly and apply for immigration (nomination) under their Express Entry program.
- By creating an Express Entry profile and being invited by the province or territory and receiving a “notification of interest”
In both cases, meet the eligibility requirements of the province or territory and you will need to meet the minimum criteria for Express Entry, including being eligible for one of the three immigration programs it covers.

CATEGORY-BASED ROUNDS OF INVITATIONS
In category-based invitation rounds, eligible candidates who fulfill the criteria set by the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada for a specific category are invited to apply for permanent residence. These criteria may include factors such:
- ability to communicate in a specific official language
- work experience in a specific Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) category of the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
- education
