Step 2: Submit Application to NSNP

After you receive a Letter of Interest from Nova Scotia through your IRCC online account, you have thirty (30) calendar days to apply to NSNP under the Labour Market Priorities stream.

To apply, you must submit your application through Nova Scotia’s online service (immilib.com/NSLMP-Apply) and ensure that you include all the required supporting documents.

If your application package is complete, you will receive a notification email within sixty (60) days of the date the NSNP receives your application confirming that your application has been received and accepted for consideration. This will include your NSNP file number.

Your application will only be considered for assessment while your federal Express Entry profile is active. Once your Express Entry profile is no longer available for nomination, you will no longer be eligible under this stream with your current application.

An NSNP officer will contact you if additional information is needed to assess your application and will tell you how to send the information.

If your application is approved, you will receive a nomination certificate through the Express Entry portal. The NSNP will also email you a nomination certificate that you should retain for your records.

You must accept the nomination within thirty (30) days after it is issued through the Express Entry portal in order to receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence.

When you accept a nomination, you are awarded 600 additional points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) (➨page). This will help you quickly get invited to apply for permanent residence through your Express Entry profile.

Step 3: Apply for Permanent Residence

You can only apply for permanent residence (➨page) through Express Entry if you’ve received an invitation to apply.

Your Express Entry invitation to apply is valid for sixty (60) days only.

Step 4: Landing in Canada

If your application is approved, you will be asked to pay your right of permanent residence fee if you haven’t already done so. You will receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR) and if you are from a country that requires a visa you will also be issued a permanent resident visa.

You will only become a Permanent Resident of Canada when you cross a Canadian port of entry. This is referred to as ‘landing in Canada’ (➨page).

You must land in Canada before the expiry date, which appears on your Canada Immigration Visa. Usually, the expiry date is one (1) year from the time medical examinations were completed. As this is not always the case, be sure to verify the expiry date as soon as the Canada Immigration Visa is received.
