SUMMARY

When applying under the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (➨Page), your application for a community recommendation may be prioritized by the Selection Committee based on a number of selection factors. Below you can find the selection criteria for each participating community:

NORTH BAY, ON

Candidates will be assessed based on a number of factors and the top-ranking candidates will be considered for recommendation.

Factor 1: Language Ability

To assess whether you have the skill set required in the community and whether you have the required skill set for their occupation in the community, your English or French language proficiency must exceed the minimum language requirement for the intended occupation in the community

Your knowledge of both official languages will also be taken into account.

Factor 2: Age

To assess whether you have the skill set required in the community, you score based on your age on the day the application is received.

Factor 3: Valid Driver’s e

To establish an intention to reside in the community and a skill set required in the community, your possession of a valid driver’s e from within Canada or their current country of residence will be considered.

Factor 4: Living in a Small Community

Your past residence in and level of familiarity with, rural and remote communities is being taken into account to demonstrate your connection to the community and intention to reside in the community.

Factor 5: Relative or Friends in North Bay

Your familial or friendship ties to an established member of the community is being considered to demonstrate your connection to the community. The family member must be a permanent resident of Canada or a Canadian citizen aged 18 years or older, and has been living within the boundaries of North Bay for a minimum of two (2) years.

Factor 6: Visit North Bay

Your undertaking of an exploratory visit of North Bay for at least five (5) nights of stay is being taken to account to demonstrate your connection to the community and your intention to reside in the community.

Factor 7: Related Work Experience

Your undertaking of an exploratory visit of North Bay for at least five (5) nights of stay is being taken to account to demonstrate your connection to the community and your intention to reside in the community.

Factor 8: Working in North Bay

Your current work for an employer who has provided the employment offer, in being considered to demonstrate your connection to the community and intention to reside in the community.

Your current employment for any employer in North Bay, shows your connection to the community.

Factor 9: Post-secondary Education in North Bay

Your education at a public post-secondary institution within the boundaries of North Bay, shows your connection to the community.

Factor 10: Temporary Status in North Bay

If you lawfully reside within the boundaries of North Bay at the time of application, it demonstrates your connection to the community.

Factor 11: Spouse Adaptability

Your spouse or common-law partner’s demonstrated adaptability to contribute to the economic and social life in North Bay, will be taken into account to establish an intention to reside in North Bay or a connection to the community, in the form of:

  • Work experience in an occupation from an eligible NOC group, or related to one of the priority in-demand NOC groups.
  • A valid job offer by, or is currently employed from an employer within the boundaries of North Bay.
  • Knowledge of one or both of Canada’s two official languages.
  • Current or previous education at a public post-secondary institution within the boundaries of North Bay.

You need to obtain a minimum total score of 65 points (or 75 for NOC 62010 and NOC 62020) to be considered for recommendation based on the following factors.

Test must be taken no more than two (2) years prior to the date your PR application to IRCC is submitted.

 To prove you language abilities you must take any of the following approved tests:

  • English: IELTS General or CELPIP General or PTE Core

You can get up to 7 points for the number of years you’ve spent doing full-time paid work (at least 30 hours per week, or an equal amount of part-time) work experience relevant to your offer of employment.

  • NOC-30 – Professional occupations in nursing
  • NOC-31 – Professional occupations in health (except nursing)
  • NOC-40 – Professional occupations in education services
  • NOC-74 – Other installers, repairers and servicers and material handler
  • NOC-75 – Transport and heavy equipment operation and related maintenance occupations
  • NOC-76 – Trades helpers, construction labourers and related occupations
  • NOC-22 – Technical occupations related to natural and applied sciences.
  • NOC-32 – Technical occupations in health
  • NOC-34 – Assisting occupations in support of health services.
  • NOC-44 – Care providers and educational, legal and public protection support occupatio
  • NOC-72 – Industrial, electrical and construction trades

You receive up to 18 points for your abilities in English and/or French. For your first official language, points will be given based on the lowest score for each ability (Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing). To be eligible, you must meet the minimum requirement based on your NOC category. The minimum language requirements for each NOC category are

  • NOC TEER 0 and 1: CLB 6
  • NOC TEER 2 and 3: CLB 5

Factor 2: Qualifications Align with Community Needs

You will receive points if you have either qualifying educational credential OR work experience that meets the following requirements:

Qualifying educational credential: You must have equivalent to minimum one (1) year Canadian college certificate AND satisfy the employment requirement of any of the Thunder Bay’s priority occupations (➨immilib.com/RNIP-TB-OID).

Qualifying work experience: You must have at least two (2) years of cumulative paid full-time (or equivalent part-time) work experience within the past 5 years in any of the priority occupations AND satisfy the employment requirement of any of the Thunder Bay’s priority occupations. Self-employed experience doesn’t count.

To assess whether you have the skill set required in the community, you score based on your age on the day the application is received.

Factor 3: Expected Wage in Claresholm

To demonstrate that you have a genuine job offer in an occupation or industry sector that is in demand in the community, your expected wage in Claresholm will be considered.

Factor 4: Past residence in Claresholm

Your past residence in and level of familiarity with Claresholm and its rural and remote communities is being taken into account to demonstrate your connection to the community and intention to reside in the community.

Factor 5: Relative or Friends in North Bay

Your familial or friendship ties to an established member of the community is being considered to demonstrate your connection to the community. The family member must be a permanent resident of Canada or a Canadian citizen aged 18 years or older, and has been living within the boundaries of Claresholm.

Factor 6: Past Social Contribution to Claresholm

To demonstrate a candidate’s connection the community, your past social contributions to Claresholm will be evaluated.

Factor 7: Spouse Adaptability

Your spouse or common-law partner’s demonstrated adaptability to contribute to the economic and social life in Claresholm, will be taken into account to establish an intention to reside in Claresholm or a connection to the community, in the form of:
