New Alberta Stream for Tourism and Hospitality

As of March 1, 2024, foreign nationals already residing in Alberta and employed within the tourism and hospitality sector are eligible to apply through Alberta’s newly introduced Tourism and Hospitality Stream.

Master’s program grads, any length, qualify for 3-year PGWP

As of February 15, 2024, students who have completed a master’s degree program, regardless of its duration being less than 2 years, qualify for a 3-year PGWP provided they meet all other eligibility requirements.

Alberta Opportunity Stream intake paused indefinitely

PTE Core Test Accepted by IRCC

As of January 30th, 2024, the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Core test is being accepted for all immigration pathways, including permanent residency and citizenship, except for the Student Direct Stream (SDS).

Starting December 3, 2021, EMPP phase 2 the IRCC will help settle up to 500 skilled refugees, and their families, in Canada. The pilot combines refugee resettlement and economic immigration and will end after 2 years. 

Changes to International Student Program aim to protect students from fraud

In a recent announcement, Canada is taking significant steps to enhance the International Student Program. These measures, including verification of acceptance letters (LOA) and prioritizing high-standard institutions, aim to protect genuine students and align with the country's economic and immigration goals.

Designated learning institutions (DLIs) must authenticate each applicant’s acceptance letter with IRCC directly.

Effective December 1, 2023, post-secondary designated learning institutions (DLI) must directly verify each applicant's letter of acceptance with IRCC.

 

New Humanitarian pathway launched for Colombian, Haitian and Venezuelan nationals with family in Canada

A new migration program that will accept up to 11,000 individuals from Colombia, Haiti, or Venezuela. Eligible candidates must currently reside in South or Central America, Mexico, or the Caribbean and have a family member in Canada who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. The qualifying family relationships include spouses, common-law partners, children (of any age), grandchildren, parents, grandparents, or siblings. Additionally, applicants must have the support of their Canadian family member for their application.  

Removal of Transport Truck Drivers NOC Code from CRS List

The NOC code for transport truck drivers has been removed from CRS list of trades for Certificate of Qualification points.

For the purposes of obtaining skill transferability factor CRS points for a certificate of qualification, only the following occupations listed here are eligible. As of November 6, 2023, Transport Truck Driver (NOC 73300) is removed from the list.
