With the goal of meeting the labor demands of the construction sector and bolstering its workforce, Nova Scotia has launched the “Nova Scotia Critical Construction Worker Pilot – Job Offer Pathway.” Commencing in October 2023, this initiative seeks to simplify the recruitment and hiring of foreign workers in the construction industry for employers in Nova Scotia.

What is the Critical Construction Worker Pilot?

The Critical Construction Worker Pilot is Nova Scotia's solution to labor shortages in 21 vital construction occupations. With a direct route to permanent residency for skilled workers, it's an appealing choice for those seeking to establish themselves in Atlantic Canada.

What are the eligibility criteria for the Critical Construction Worker Pilot?

To be eligible for the Critical Construction Worker Pilot, an applicant must fulfill the listed requirements aside from the job offer:

Age: Applicants must fall within the age range of 21 to 55 years.

Work Experience: A minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience related to the job offer is required.

Education: Applicants should hold a high school diploma (or equivalent) or have completed a construction-specific industry training program.

Job Offer: Eligibility requires obtaining a permanent, full-time job offer from a Nova Scotian employer in one of the 21 designated construction occupations.

For those in occupation categories TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3, a minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in all four abilities (Writing, Reading, Listening, Speaking) in either English or French is required. If applicants are in TEER 4 or 5 occupations, CLB 4 in the same language abilities is necessary.
