SUMMARY
A super visa allows you to visit your children or grandchildren in Canada for up to five (5) years. It's a multi-entry visa that allows you to visit Canada multiple times for up to ten (10) years.
You can still obtain a super visa to stay in Canada for up to five (5) years if you don't need a visitor visa. You can apply for a visitor visa (➨Page) if you want to stay for less than six (6) months.

- a promise of financial support for the length of your visit
- the list and number of people in the household of child or grandchild in Canada
- a copy of this person’s Canadian citizenship or permanent resident document
3- Inviter’s Income
The child or grandchild who invites you must prove that their household meets the minimum necessary income. They must show that they have minimum income based on the Statistics Canada’s Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) (➨Appendix 2).

Other factors will also be considered before a decision is made for your super visa. You must be a genuine visitor to Canada who will leave Canada on your own will at the end of your stay.
These considerations could include your ties to your home country, the reason for your travel, your family and finances, and your home country's overall economic and political stability.

WHAT STEPS SHOULD YOU TAKE?
Step 1: Obtain Letter of Invitation
You must have a signed letter of invitation from your child or grandchild that includes:
- a promise of financial support for the length of your visit
- the list and number of people in the household of child or grandchild in Canada
- a copy of this person’s Canadian citizenship or permanent resident document
Step 2: Get Child/Grandchild Proof of Income
You must provide proof that your child or grandchild’s household meets the minimum necessary income. Examples include:
- Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 for the most recent tax year
- Employment Insurance stubs
- employment letter including salary and date of hiring
- pay stubs
- bank statements
Step 3: Get Medical Insurance
You must obtain and pay for medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company with at least $100,000 coverage. You coverage must be valid for at least one (1) year from your date of entry.
Step 4: Medical Exam
Since you are planning to stay in Canada for more than six (6) months, you have the option of doing a medical exam before you apply. This is called an upfront medical exam. To get one, contact a panel physician (➨immilib.com/PP) directly.
Only an approved panel physician can do a complete medical exam for immigration reasons. You must include a copy of the Upfront Medical Report with your application.
Once the exam is done, the physician will send the results to IRCC and will give you a document confirming that a medical exam is done.
Step 5: Apply for Super Visa
You must apply for super visa from outside Canada. You must apply online with the IRCC portal (➨immilib.com/SV-Apply).
You may apply on paper if you can’t apply online because of a disability, or if you’re travelling with an identity or travel document that was issued to a refugee, a stateless person or a non-citizen.
Step 6: Get your fingerprint and photo taken (Biometrics)
