SUMMARY
Bridging open work permit (BOWP) lets you continue working in Canada while waiting for the results of your permanent residence application.
Qualified applicants are exempted from the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) (➨immilib.com/LMIA) under paragraph R205(a) of Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) (exemption code A75)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements must be met if you are applying for a work permit under the Bridging Open Work Permit program:
1- Permanent Residence Category
Only if you applied to one of the permanent residence programs below, you may be eligible for a BOWP.
2- Residence in Canada
To be eligible for a BOWP, you must live in Canada and intend to live outside Quebec, unless you applied under Quebec Skilled Worker program in which case you must have an intention to live in Quebec.
3- Work Permit
At the time of submission you must have a valid work permit, have applied to renew your work permit or be eligible to restore your expired work permit.
4- PR Application Stage
If you applied for permanent residence under any of the following programs, your application must have been submitted and passed the completeness check stage.
- Permanent residence using Express Entry
- PNP (Express Entry)
- Caring for children class or caring for people with high medical needs class (Closed)
- Quebec Skilled Worker
You must have received a Positive Eligibility Assessment (approved in principle) on your PR application, if you applied for permanent residence under any of the following programs:
- PNP (non-Express Entry)
- Home Child-Care Provider Pilot
- Home Support Worker Pilot
- Caring for children class or caring for people with high medical needs class
- Agri-Food Pilot
If you apply for permanent residence using under a PNP program that are submitted in paper (non-express entry streams), you must be approved in principle for permanent residence, meaning you have passed the eligibility stage and still have to pass the medical, security and background checks. Express entry applicants can apply if they have submitted complete application and received an acknowledge letter and file number.
