SUMMARY

Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP)

The Prince Edward Islands International Graduates Stream gives graduates from a publicly-funded PEI post-secondary institution that have a job offer from a PEI employer the opportunity to apply to permanently live and work in the province.

International Graduates stream is part of PEI Workforce Category, which includes the following streams:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The following requirements must be met if you are applying to the Prince Edward Island International Graduates Stream:

1- Job Offer Requirement

At the time of your application and at the time the PEI PNP assesses your application for nomination, you must have a bona fide full-time job offer from a PEI employer in an eligible occupation. Your job offer must be permanent (meaning job has no end date) or for a minimum of two (2) years.

Any applicant applying under NOC 73300 (Transport truck drivers) will be required to have at least 12 months of long haul truck driving experience and their job offer must be with an eligible PEI employer.

2- Work Permit

You must have a valid post-graduate work permit (➨Page) and legal status in Canada.

3- Age

You must be between the ages of 18 and 59.

4- Language Ability

For TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 jobs, you must and possess sufficient English and/or French language ability to perform the job offered. For a TEER 4 or 5 positions, you must provide a valid language test result with a minimum score of CLB 4.

Language test must be taken no more than two (2) years prior to submission of your application.

5- Education

You must have successfully completed a post-secondary degree or diploma from a publicly-funded PEI post-secondary institution.

6- Settlement Funds

You must show that you have enough money to cover federal immigration fees, travel costs for all included in the application, as well as everyday living expenses.

7- Ineligibility

You are not eligible to apply under the Prince Edward Island International Graduate Stream if:
  • You have a federal Express Entry profile (in which case you should apply under PEI Express Entry stream (➨Page))
  • You are a refugee claimant in Canada, a failed refugee claimant, had a removal order, are prohibited from entering or being in Canada, do not have status in Canada or are living illegally in your country of residence.

If you meet the above minimum requirement, then you must calculate your total score based on the following selection factors. There is no minimum required score. But you will be ranked based upon your points assessment score and placed in an Expression of Interest (EOI) pool.

Candidates will be ranked against each other and only top ranked candidates with a connection to Prince Edward Island will be invited to apply. A draw will occur with the top ranked candidates and consideration of connection to, and interest in PEI being selected and issued an invitation to apply (➨immilib.com/PEIG-Grid).

You will be awarded points for your Canadian educational credential or foreign credential accompanied by Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) Report.

The ECA Report must not be more than five (5) years old prior to the date PEI PNP receives your application and the date you will submit your application for Expression of Interest.

Factor 3: Employment in PEI

You can get maximum of 20 points for the following employment related factors

You can get maximum of 20 points for any combination of the following factors:

WHAT STEPS SHOULD YOU TAKE?

Step 1: Complete Your Studies in Canada

In order to apply under the PEI International Graduate Stream, the first step is to a post-secondary degree or diploma from a publicly‐funded Prince Edward Island post-secondary institution.

You need a study permit (➨Page) in order to study in Canada. Before you apply for a study permit, you need an acceptance letter from one of the above institutions.

Step 2: Apply for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)

After completion of studies in Prince Edward Island, you need to apply for and obtain a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) (➨Page).

Step 3: Get a Job Offer in Prince Edward Island

Before you can submit your application under the “Prince Edward Island International Graduate Stream”, you must have a bona fide full-time job offer from a PEI employer in an eligible occupation.

If you don’t already have a qualified job offer with the criteria explained in “Minimum Requirements”, you need to find an employer and secure a job for yourself.

Step 4: Submit an Online Expression of Interest (EOI)

Now that you meet all the requirements, you can complete an online Expression of Interest (EOI) (➨immilib.com/PEIG-Apply) for yourself.

EOI is an online system where you submit information about yourself to the PEI Provincial Nominee Program.
To complete the EOI, you’ll need information from some documents including passports, language test results, etc. But you don’t need to upload any documents.
After you submit the EOI, the system will calculate your score based upon the information you enter and your EOI will be placed in a pool for potential selection. The highest-scoring, qualified candidates with a connection to Prince Edward Island will be invited to submit an application to the PEI PNP.

If you’re not invited to apply within six (6) months of submitting your EOI, it will automatically expire and removed from the system. You can still create a new EOI. If you are able to acquire additional points after submitting your EOI, you will need to submit a new EOI.

Step 5: Submit Application to PEI PNP

If you are invited to apply, you must submit your application within sixty (60) days by providing the application forms, application fee and all supporting documentation to PEI PNP. You must send your original complete application package by registered mail or courier or in person.
If your application is complete, you will receive a letter or email confirming that your file has been received and accepted for processing. This will include your PEI PNP file number.
A PEI PNP officer will contact you if information is needed to assess your application and will tell you how to send the information.
If your application is approved, you will become a Provincial Nominee and receive a nomination package including you Provincial Nomination Certificate.

Step 6: Apply for Permanent Residence

If you are nominated by the province of Prince Edward Island, then your next step is to submit a complete application for a permanent resident visa within three (3) months (➨Page).

You must submit your application using the IRCC Permanent Residence Portal (PR Portal) (➨ immilib.com/PR-Portal). 

If your application is complete, you will receive a letter or an email confirming that your file has been received and accepted for processing. This letter is called the Acknowledge of Receipt (AOR) and will include your IRCC file number.
Once you have received your acknowledgement of receipt, you can create an online account and link your application to it. By creating an account, you will be able to receive email updates and a more detailed case status.
Apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit (if applicable)

If your PR application is not finalized, you may be able to apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) (➨Page). This will let you to stay and continue working on a valid work permit until your PR application is finalized.

You may apply for BOWP only if your PR application is approved in principle meaning you have passed the eligibility stage and still have to pass the medical, security and background checks.

Step 7: Landing in Canada

If your application is approved, you will be asked to pay your right of permanent residence fee if you haven't already done so. You will receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR) and if you are from a country that requires a visa you will also be issued a permanent resident visa.

You will only become a Permanent Resident of Canada when you cross a Canadian port of entry. This is referred to as ‘landing in Canada' (➨Page).

You must land in Canada before the expiry date, which appears on your Canada Immigration Visa. Usually, the expiry date is one (1) year from the time medical examinations were completed. As this is not always the case, be sure to verify the expiry date as soon as the Canada Immigration Visa is received.
If you are approved for permanent residency by IRCC, you must report to the Office within 30 days of landing in Canada. You may report in person to the Office of Immigration at 94 Euston Street, 2nd floor, or email [email protected] to schedule an appointment. Please note that you may be contacted for up to five years after landing with a short survey to update your file.
